Yuva Nivas

Fostering access to education and housing for all members of our society

About the organisation

We are a voluntary, non-profit, non-government social welfare organization established in 1968. The primary intention was to assist the working women from the lower-income group in Guwahati.  Being the biggest city in the Northeastern part of India, many women come to Guwahati for their livelihood, but a safe, secure, and affordable accommodation facility with all necessities is scarcely available in the city.

Hence, Suchibrata Roychoudhury (who was given the name "Dinabandhabi", which translates to "a friend of the poor"), joined by Dr. J Bezbaruah, Dr. A Bezbaruah, Sri B.G Roychaudhury, Sri R.K Gautam and many other like-minded social workers formed an NGO and started "Mahila Nivas" (a working women’s hostel).

To support the development of the youth, women, and children of the underprivileged section, this organization has undertaken various welfare activities from time to time. The key contribution was establishing a school for underprivileged children, on 2nd October 1980. It was named Ankur Vidyapith.

Both the working woman's hostel and the school are now run by Yuva Nivas Sanstha (YNS) and are located in Narengi, Guwahati.

Yuva Nivas Sanstha is registered under Societies Registration Act. XXI of 1860 (regd. No. 81 of 1968-69).
